Seven Sunday Gratitudes

1)  Waking up to  the pitter-pat of kitty paws on  the bed comforter.   Feeling  the softness of kitty whiskers against my face… even if it is only 5:30 in the morning.

2) Me and the dogs heading out for our morning walk …. so happy to see that the ‘mini sidewalk plow’ has been by.    Warmer temps, gently falling snow, and a cleared path… who could ask for more.

3) Getting ready to spend the day with Mom and so grateful that she is ok.  She had a fall on Boxing day that left us all a little shaken.

4) So very grateful for assisted living facilities that enable our seniors to live independent lives … but with a safety net.   Last week Mom and I visited this one, only minutes from our house.   Mom put in an application.  Fingers crossed for an opening to become available  soon.

5) Happy, happy (as I reach to lift the telephone receiver) to recognize my sister’s long distance number on the caller ID screen.

6) Day two of four days off.   I can feel my shoulders drop as the tightness is released.

7) Still finding it hard to use the words “I” and “retirement” in the same sentence… but the count down to my ‘magic 80’ has begun.

Magic 80? Is that days? I love #1. Since Sarah sold her house and moved back home, there are two kitties in residence. I just love having them here. They like to go out around the pool to soak up the sun, but these days with our cold, one of them goes out, only to come right back in.

I hope your mother can make that transition. That would make things so much easier for everyone. And I’m glad she is doing o.k. since her fall. That is scary.

When my combined age plus years of service is equal to, or greater than, 80.. I am said to have reached my ‘Magic 80′ and I am entitled to my full pension. I reach my ‘magic 80′ the end of April this year… Yay!!

I guess that doggone cat is okay then. Enjoy the next two days.

  3. All good reasons to be grateful. At least Bear awakens you with gentle whisker touches; Patches method is a kamikaze leap onto the bed, followed by attempts to pull the comforter off with her claws to get me up.

I think it’s wonderful that your mother is willing to move to an assisted living arrangement, especially if she is starting to have falls. It sounds like your future is starting to fall into place–yay!

    What a nice list.

and let me say this about retirement. When I was laid off from a very high stress job 2 years ago, I decided that I had worked long enough. I’ve been home for 2 years now, and it’s worth the wait. Good luck.

    Lovely gladnesses.

it’s hard to know what a good assisted living place is. Glad there’s one close by.
