First Snow

This year I feel as if I am stuck in a perpetual “wait and see” mode .. first for summer, then for fall.  Neither one really materialized.   It’s a strange year, that’s for sure.

Since the heavy frost two nights ago, the leaves are falling… but they are covering the lawn and gathering in the gutters still green. Many of the trees lining our street continue to carry a full plumage of green, showing off very little in the way of fall colours.   It just all seems kind of weird.

And now,  as of last night,  snow.

This morning the ground is white.  Flowers, still in pots, peek through a blanket of snow.

The  lawn furniture and umbrella still sit on the patio,  a colourful contradiction to the now wintry scene.first snow

Bear Anyway.. no time to sit and pout.   Sadie and I are out and about early, hoping  to grab some first-snow photos.

Coco was out as well… but only for a second.  And poor Bear…  his time outside was even shorter.

I think the furkids are feeling as weather-confused as we humans.

Of course Sadie couldn’t be happier.   I guess I may as well follow her lead.  :-)

It just seems too early for snow.

It’s still in the 70s here which is a good thing because none of my dogs is a “Sadie.” I have four Cocos who want me to turn on the heat outside when it goes below 70.

    YUK…too early, too cold!!!
My wish for you is that it is temporary and in a few days will disappear until after Halloween!
They showed Winnipwg on the news here…and Leo and I cringed.
    Stay warm.

The weather is strange indeed, isn’t it. I visited a friend in New York this week, expecting to see brilliant colors, and they were not quite there either.

I hope it gets itself straightened out!

  5. The snowbirds are officially migrating as of today. Stay warm!

I have not dropped by your blog in some time Colleen but I knew I could depend on you for some great images. No matter how much we Winnipeggers complain about the snow (and the cold) images of freshly falling snow are like few others. It really is quite beautiful.

But I’d be happier if it would go away and not return until, oh, say December 24th?

While almost all the snow is now gone, a few patches can still be found in the ditch. Not only did Bear love the snow yesterday, but ate from every patch he could on our walk today. Glad someone loves the weather!

Sadie is one happy puppy no matter the weather.

I’m looking out my window and it’s snowing again!! I guess I was wrong about the Junco’s. I haven’t seen hardly any birds since the snow. Not even my chickadees at the lake. Smart birds, they’ve all flown south. You know Colleen this is going to make for a very long winter!

WOW! Please don’t send that east any time soon! Our leaves are not peak either where I live but they are more so as you go north to cottage country. Our days in the summer bedroom are indeed numbered! We have the heater in every night and had our first major killing frost the other night.
Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving weekend.

Oh my heavens! I haven’t even moved my plants in yet! Though tonight I think I should. Our temps are moving into the 40s at night. I should be more appreciative like Sadie too of all things that come.

We had our first snow at the cottage this morning but home escaped for a few more days.
