The Dog Days of Summer… where are you.

August is here, but the expected sultry dog days of summer  seem lost to  us this year.   After one week of summer like weather, the clouds and rain have returned.   Oh well.. at least we managed to capture the moment that we had.

firstbee One thing about all this rain… I have never seen the grass so green and vibrant this late in the  summer season.

And the flowers.. just beautiful!  The vegetables could use a bit more sun and are lacking in the fruit department but the peppers and peas seem to be happy enough.  The tomatoes.. well, there are enough of them but green is still the colour of the day.

With all of the unsummer like weather the movie theaters in Winnipeg have been doing a brisk  business.   Last evening Roland, Cynthia and I decided we should check out Meryl Streep in Julie and Julia.  What a great movie!  Meryl Streep leaves me in awe.   Highly recommended.

At the end of the evening saying good bye to Cynni was hard.  She leaves for home Wednesday morning and today she will be visiting with relatives on her mother’s side.   Yesterday was our good bye.

Prior to the actual moment, just the thought of it had my eyes stinging,  but the actual hug and words went well.  Knowing that I will see her soon, in two months to be exact, helped the moment pass with no big display of grandma tears.    It’s just hard when you love them so much.   And with so  much happening in her life right now… can’t help it…  I just want to be close.

Anywho…  this morning  the grey of the sky is  somewhat interlaced with hints of blue… here’s hoping.

    Look at those Lillies!!
    They are fabulous!

Both Coco and Sadie pose so nicely… how do you get them to do it? By the way, you pose nicely too! ; ) I know about missing those babies and how fast they grow up and leave home. Without my parents, I would be an empty nester too.

I keep wishing I could trade our endless sunshine and total lack of rain for a few of your clouds, but I guess we accept what we are given. Your yard looks fabulous. It seems like all I do is water mine.

I can’t wait to see Julie and Julia. Our book group read the book, and there was lots of conversation. And I just can’t wait to see what the movie community does with the story.

It must be tough to say goodbye.

I’ve heard good things about that movie.

It’s been hotter than blazes here lately.

  6. Your photographs just get better and better.

I admire that you’ve been able to maintain such a close relationship with your grandchildren despite the distance and that fact that they are now teenagers. Enjoy that.

I still can’t get over it. Sadie is STILL the spittin image of my dear departed Mollie. You 3 look so peaceful enjoying the last precious days of summer.

This Winnipeg weather is the pits! My poor garden is soo sad. Although I do have one ripe tomatoe! With all this rain & wet my poor flowers are starting to go moldy on the plants. But your right Coll. The grass never looked so green. Hopefully sun this weekend. Were off to the lake.

Where are the dog days of summer? They’re probably at the beach. :)

Coll ,it is one of those things “enjoy it while you can” We have had a few scorching days here on the Island, but lately it had moderated and is more pleasant.

Sasha and Dexter believe everyday is a dog day. Still Sirius is up there somewhere apparently close to the Southern Cross, which might suggest we are in the dog days of winter. However, I notice that the sun is taking longer to go into hiding beyond the escarpment. Spring, then Summer is on the way with their basket of mixed blessings for us.

Good to see you are getting your quota of vitamin D, which apparently some among us here in this sunny land have a deficiency because of long hours of work and so forth.

You guys have had the most amazing warm weather! We only had summer for about 3 weeks and then it was gone. Going to be 2C tonight but up to 17 tomorrow. Putting summer clothes away and bringing down fall clothes and decorations!
