Manitoba has a well established reputation for its’ bitterly cold, harsh winters. Thoughts of summer, especially of the sweet perfection that is our July, are what fuels many of us onward through the ice and the snow and the starkness that is January.
So what has happened this year?? Where is our much anticipated summer? Here it is, the middle of July… and we still seem to be waiting. Cool days, cloudy skies, northerly winds… not quite what we expected.
I heard an interesting weather tidbit the other day. Apparently Manitoba is experiencing its’ eighth month in a row of below normal temperatures. This is only the third time in weather tracking history that this has occurred. If the average temperature remains below normal for nine months, we will set a new record. Here’s hoping…. NOT!
Oh well… at least its not snowing. And truth be told, I am rather enjoying the hint of coolness. In my younger days I lived for the sweltering heat of the summer.. but not so much anymore. As long as the day is pleasant enough to allow being outside, I am usually content. Mind you… a little more sunshine might be nice.
Next week Roland, Paul, Chris and I plan on taking in a Winnipeg Goldeyes ball game … so I am keeping my fingers crossed for a good weather day. And I know the kids are going to be out at the lake this weekend.. so lots of sun is hoped for them as well.
After two very cold and fall like days, this morning the sun is once more gracing the sky. Hopefully its rays will bring some yearned for warmth. My garden would certainly be appreciative. So far, not much is happening within my vegetable patch… very behind from last year.
Any how.. it is what it is, I suppose. And so I had better get out there and enjoy what we have at the moment. At least I am no longer scraping ice off the car windows. :-)

We are not as hot as usual either… but muggy… very muggy and that makes it feel hotter. Send rain! Please.
I surely wish we could send you some of our hot dry endless sunshine days for a little rain. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could scatter weather around?
Way down here in Virginia, I had socks on the other day. It’s been cooler than normal here too. I think the earth is like a snow globe (or rain globe in our case) that is getting shook up and the weather is landing new in new places.
Ah Colleen at last a sunny day. Let’s hope they’re right with the weekend forecast. Were off to the lake. But it’s too cold for kayaking so far this year. Maybe the garden will grow a bit with the warm weather forecasted.
The weather is nuts here too although we’ve had a few decent days this week.
BTW we took in a Goldeneyes game when we were there is 2003 for a night or two.
Sorry to read that you’re not too hot these days. (So to speak.) But as they say, it could always be worse.
July should be HOT! What is going on up there? We are actually having some nice low 80 days right now. The 90s are tough with the humidity but today and yesterday have been lovely. Even a little breeze blowing! I hope you get your heat soon.
And for goodness sakes how in the world did you get over 180,000 on BJ. I didn’t even know I could get that high. My friends see that I win as far as their team but I try to explain to them I have a lady kicking my butt on my own team!
We have even had a little coolness for July…below 90 no less!
A summer cool is better than a winter “cool.”
Over at AccuWeather, they have a couple blog posts on the winter outlook. In Manitoba, if I remember correctly, the weather will be seasonal but dry between September and December. Come January, be ready for winter cold, but it won’t snow as much.
But, for what it’s worth, the outlook will be revised in mid-August.
We’re having a cooler than usual July here in Bucks County Pennsylvania as well. Some of our plants are confused as when it’s bloom time.
yes, I know what you mean. I’ve been invoking the “at least it’s not snowing” as it-could-be-worse consolation. on the weather predictions today they say 27 degrees but I’m believe it when I feel a drop of sweat.
Goodness Coll, you must be feeling antsy just waiting for some nice hot summer weather.
