Our spring has NOT been one that poets write about. Rain clouds and the North Wind have dominated our days.
With the flooding in April and the continued cool and wet spring our weather remains the topic of most conversations, often being the leading story on our local Newscasts.
“Where is Spring”, the common lament.
One of the reasons Dia waited until late May for her visit was that we hoped for better and warmer weather…. but not so this year. As it turned out we had a great time regardless of the cool, almost cold days… but it was a little ironic when she phoned home to Victoria and heard that they were enjoying unseasonal warm weather on the west coast… sheesh!
The trees… they know. The cold weather had them holding tight to their new budding leaves. Perennials peeked out but were hesitant to let loose. Sheets still covered annuals and vegetables at night to protect from the danger of frost.
But as of yesterday… all that is history. Suddenly…and I do mean that word, the sun is out and there is a warmth to the day. Spring / Summer is here.
Halleluiah!
For the past week I have been walking down our street every morning to check on and feed my son’s cat while he and his family are on holidays.
Yesterday as I strolled down towards their home, it seemed like a completely different street from the day before. What a difference a little light and warmth makes.
With the blue skies and the heat of the sun, suddenly the leaves have popped and a canopy of green welcomed me. Blossoms miraculously now hang from the fruit trees and yards are now bordered with green plants sporting buds and even some flowers. I suppose inklings of all this were previously there… but I hadn’t noticed with my face bowed against the wind and my head covered with my hoodie.
I noticed today!
Walking back home, my cat-sitting duties done, I marveled at the change. Funny how the weather effects our outlook and attitude (at least it does mine). Suddenly my entire world just seemed that much better a place.
And I knew it wasn’t just me. Others too were out and about. Everyone with smiles.
“How come your out walking without your dogs?” was exclaimed more than once as I walked on by.
A chuckle broke out from my already smile.
Ah .. sunshine… finally!

i’m so glad you have your warm day and sunshine and that the plants are responding. When I was in Virginia in April, everything was just starting to bud; when I returned in May, everything was in full flower. I love my son’s street. In the early evening, everyone is out visiting and enjoying the day.
I wish for you that it could be longer.
Sounds as though you just went through what we went through every year living on Lake Erie. Winter lasted close to 6 months (maybe my memory is playing tricks, but it sure seemed that long), spring came in for a day or two, and then it was 85-90 degrees F with high humidity for several weeks. But mid-June is a long time for you to wait for that first burst of spring!
We’ve had a very nice few days here. Lots of people out enjoying it today (Sunday).
I love seeing your pictures.. our iris have come and gone and the flowering plum and crab apple trees have done the same. Even my dwarf lilies have finished blooming. The warmth is good… I just wish it would stay in the 60′s and 70′s a bit longer before skyrocketing into the high 80′s and 90′s.
We have had the strangest weather haven’t we! The house was so cold last week and then today, I requested the air conditioner be uncovered so it could be used. Here’s to a long and warm summer!
We too had one of those seemingly instantaneous changeovers from Winter to Spring and oh, how it brightened my spirits. I’m glad your Spring finally arrived.
I love the new profile pic, by the way.
Your pictures are lovely…..
Enjoy yourself!
Pretty flowers—and it’s always a nice feeling to leave a cat behind. And to return to ones dogs.
I hope you have lots of sunny days ahead of you. Enjoy your summer!
