With the nicer weather, the time I spend at my computer has dwindled.. but I figure my sister’s visit most definitely deserves a post.
Dia lives in Victoria, B.C., probably one of the the loveliest places in Canada. Last year I had the opportunity to visit her. This year it was her turn to come here.
Her visit was so anticipated that when the day finally came, it almost seemed surreal. Looking back, I can’t help but wish that we could have some how slowed down the pace a little, dragged it out just a little longer. From the moment that she walked down the escalator at the airport we were caught up in a whirl wind of activity, trying our best to catch up on a years accumulation of happenings in a five day stay.
Actually, looking back … we did quite well but it simply went by way to fast. Thank goodness for memories… I will do my savoring with them. :-)
‘Mom time’ was high on the priority list. Although Mom just recently turned 87 she still manages fairly independently using a walker to help her get out and about. The three of us, Mom, Dia, and I, spent part of each day together. We had a lot of catching up to do and that we did … sometimes over food, sometimes over pictures, always with hugs and laughter.
‘Baby time’ was another high priority. I couldn’t wait for her to finally meet my newest granddaughter and grandson. Dia has a one year old granddaughter in Victoria, so babies and kids were definitely the focus of much of our conversations and ‘shopping time.’

‘Sister time’ was the true blessing that umbrellaed each and every day. The comfort of being with someone who knows me so well, who unconditionally accepts what I say and how I feel and knows that the feelings are reciprocated is such a gift. Oh how I miss this now that she is once more so many miles away.
Thank goodness for email and telephones and photos.
And thank God for sisters.

I feel the same way about my brother. He is due back in the states for a four week stay in July… after his building project is almost done.
So glad you had a lovely time and hurry back more often.
It gets lonely here without you.
Your visit sounds like a wonderful one. How nice. And to be able to include your Mother, so great.
Thanks for sharing.
It’s good to hear from you. Keep on enjoying what the summer brings. Our girls will be flying in from Vancouver today.
nice to hear from you and such a lovely post about your family!
There is nothing like spending time with a sister. You are so fortunate to have her!
Yes, thank God for sisters !!
So good to hear from you Colleen. Glad your having such wonderful holidays. Now if only we could do something about this Winnipeg weather. I feel like a duck with all the rain. Don’t hurry back to work, enjoy your family.

I envy you and your sister. That is one thing in life that I’ve never known. My mother gave birth to three babies. Her first was stillborn; then I came, and then a third was a premature birth, and that baby did not live. I can’t imagine what that must have felt like for my mother.
Your mother looks great! How is her eyesight?
Hi Beverly, Mom’s macular degeneration has been the hardest thing for her to deal with but at least there hasn’t been any recent worsening. She is unable to read but still manages most life skills independently. Thank you for asking.
Some visits do go by too quickly.
I see the change on your “ID” photo to the photographer. Also, I saw on your Flickr space about transforming your blog into a book.
Hope you’re enjoying the time away from blogging.
Always a pleasure to read good news… and getting together with faraway family members has to be a great feeling.
