Bear, my Manx cat, turned eight years old this spring. He has always been an indoor cat but last fall he decided that he really wanted to check out the back yard. He doesn’t wander far… just out to the back under the trees. For the first time ever he is now wearing a collar with a small bell and a tag. He doesn’t seem to mind. :-)
Bear and I would like to send a big “thank you” out to Carla for giving us the low down on cat collars. That was so helpful. Thanks Carla. :-)
and in other local news:
Our mighty Red River is threatening to over flow its banks. This is not a new experience… it happens every spring. It’s just that some years are worse than others… this year being a bad one. Here in Winnipeg we are usually protected from flood waters thanks to Duff’s Ditch, the Winnipeg floodway .
The problem this year is the ice. Because of the lingering cold, the ice has not melted and ice jams and dams are forming and causing the water to flow … filling fields, threatening homes and potentially blocking the floodway gates. The talk of ice and what it may lead to has been the #1 topic of conversation on most Winnipeg street corners for days now. Sandbaggers are out in full force, reinforcing and building higher.
The latest flood news (as of yesterday) can be found here .

You and Bear are so welcome! Glad I could help. Bear looks so handsome in his new red collar. That is exactly the kind of safety collar that mine wear. And how cute with the little paw prints!
Uh oh, you’re having the same kinds of problems with the Red River that Fargo has been dealing with.
Happy Easter to you and all of your loved ones!
Our river is flooded too. The peninsula we sat on last summer is under water. The bike trails are back to dry tho. Quite a surge of current coming downstream. Lovely.
Bear looks wonderful. Smokey Joe is 5, and he now likes to sit on the deck when we are there. He doesn’t seem to be interested in going too far. And I like that.
I hope that no serious flooding happens in your area. Life is tough enough.

Hoping you’re high and dry. It was nice to see a real Canadian Canada goose. Happy Easter from all of us Good Cats…
I hope that the flooding doesn’t get too bad. Wasn’t the last real bad one about ten years ago?
Yes A/C… the flood of the century in 1997. It was a scary time for Manitoba, Winnipeg included. We actually had to evacuate the hospital where I worked. Yes… that was a bad one and is now the year that we compare all others to.
Thanks for the update, Colleen. I am getting an idea now for the first time of what goes on when the snow melts.
Bear’s collar matches nicely with his fur color.
Hope you stay dry. Happy Easter.
Bear is so handsome in his collar. Hoping you all are spared the flooding.
Oh, dear… we have been following the problems with the Red River up in North Dakota and I wondered if it was near you. (We also have another Red River between Oklahoma and Texas… obviously not the same) I hope things warm up for you soon… and that the flooding is less than expected.
Bear… you look wonderful!
Glad to read that disaster has been averted. Wow. You’ve had such a long, rough winter. We had some snow of April 1st, but it was little enough to really be a joke.
The flooding in your area is making news out here. I hope it doesn’t cause you any problems.
That’s a very spiffy collar that Bear has. Great photo of him!
Bear is quite the Dude in his new red collar and he looks as if he knows how handsome he is.
Hi
Your kitty is so cute from the pic….Bear is the cutie…thank you for sharing this.
