And Suddenly… Spring

springdrip From –20C to +4C  in the matter of a week,  Spring is making a grand entrance this year.   And I, for one, am happy to see her.

With such a dramatic  arrival, water is flowing everywhere causing some minor headaches.   With the sewer drains still plugged with ice, our street quickly turned into a pond.

Drivers were wearing a bit of a scowl…. but the neighbourhood kids were out and happy as could be, finally wearing their colourful spring rubber boots and making quite the splash.  As with anything, attitude is everything.  :-)

While out walking the other day,  I heard a sound that really had me smile.   A true sign of the season to come ..  the honking of geese.   And sure enough, looking up, there they were, only two, but still the first two Canadian Geese that I have seen in over four months.   I was so happy I waved and jumped up and down.   Good thing I was walking out back in the field without too many witnesses.  :-)

springgrass And look at this … grass peeking through in my back yard.  Another thing that I have not seen in a long, long time.

Yup… water is everywhere, the dogs are wet,  my floors are covered with wet dirty tracks, but my heart sings at the thought of Spring.

Or, perhaps a lull before a late winter blizzard. Hopefully not.

Hooray for spring! I’m so happy for you.

Spring begins here tomorrow. I am yearning for warmer weather, so I can spend more time outdoors in my garden.

Oh, love the lowdown shot by the gurgle. And grass. That looks like Easter.

  5. From -20 to +4 is good, as long as what goes up doesn’t come back down for awhile…

We’ve heard Canadas honking around our part of the country all winter long, and since there’s a pond near us, often flocks fly low over our house. It’s noisy, I guess, but I never get tired of hearing them.

Tell Sadie and Coco to get on their walking boots. You three will be hitting the springtime trails real soon.

  7. So that’s where all our Canada Geese are going! They’ve been on the move lately in their large, wavering Vs, calling out to each other.

    Love the water “plop”.

    A time for muddy doggies.

I am really pleased for you that the season has turned. Good news the earth is still on its journey around the sun. Thanks for the photos they go some way to satisfy my curiosity. As we move into Autumn – Fall – we are beginning to feel cooler temperatures.

Ah Spring. It takes so long to come to the prairies. I’m sure you and the dogs are enjoying the warmer weather. I still haven’t seen a geese yet. H

Isn’t spring wonderful? The geese never leave here (Bucks County, Pennsylvania). Sometimes it looks like farmers are raising Canadian Geese, there are so many.

    Enjoy!

Spring comes and goes here… 70 one day, 50 the next, back up to 80 the next and then down to 30. We have had a lot of rain… five days of light to medium rain without stopping for more than an hour or so. It was gray and dull and nasty. Today it was 70 and lovely with sunshine, but then another front went through and the winds are up and it dropped 20 degrees in about 30 minutes. Brrrr.

We have Canadian geese year round but the bluebirds are back now. I wish they would get their act together… they keep playing birdhouse tag with the chickadees and the industrious chickadees are winning.. when it comes to nest building.

    -20 degrees!

I don’t know how you live with temperatures like that. I haven’t seen anything below 4 degrees in my entire life (six years – to be precise.)

It’s nice to know that spring has returned. Those grass-blades look so delicate, peeping through the window of snow – I guess the snow looks translucent because it’s melting. Lovely pictures.

    Licks n wags,
    Oorvi
