My most favoured season has settled nicely over southern Manitoba. Much of my time is being spent outdoors, often with camera in hand. Little of my time seems to be employed at the keyboard.. but that, I suspect, is simply the way of the moment.
As mentioned in a previous post, I recently enjoyed a most pleasant morning with co-workers/friends at Birds Hill park, snapping pictures and “catching-up”. Many fine photos were the result of that walk. One, by “photodave”, is a definite favourite.
Thought I might share it with you.
Yup.. that’s me and Coco. I love it! Thanks Dave for letting me share this.

———–
With October knocking at the door, most years I am busy in the yard, pulling plants from planters, uprooting vegetables from the garden, reflecting on the summer past, spring still seeming like yesterday.
This year, even though I know the first damaging frost is only a dip in a clear night away, I have let my flowers stay. They still, for the most part, look so fine. I haven’t the heart to yank them.
Somethings are different. I no longer deadhead the spent blooms, so the old are now mixed with the new.. a somehow more apt reflection of the season at hand. My favourites, the airy Cosmos, continue to do well.
With the Autumnal equinox and Fall now official, the opening of a new bloom is somewhat like a warm sun-drenched day.. a gift.
Go, sit upon the lofty hill,
And turn your eyes around,
Where waving woods and waters wild
Do hymn an autumn sound.
The summer sun is faint on them –
The summer flowers depart –
Sit still — as all transform’d to stone,
Except your musing heart.
The Autumn by Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Yes, Autumn is here. Enjoy it and its colour.
The approach of autumn is really depressing to me. I’m a spring/summer person. But this post did help me see the beauty of the season. Thanks, Colleen.
I so look forward to experiencing fall as I go to Virginia next week. I look forward to experiencing Ella too!
That really is a great picture of you and Coco.
Great snapshots, verbally and photographically. October’s at the door. I’m stopping the deadheading of the basil blossoms. Otherwise much the same here so far.
Why don’t you deadhead anymore? Are we supposed to stop doing that during fall? Cripes.
As always, gorgeous photos Coll :) I love Bear!
I love photoDave’s picture! I think you need to frame that one!
I also like your flower photos…but I especially love the one of Bear. I can tell he’s really enjoying his yard. But I bet when the snow comes he’ll be just as happy to stay inside.
beautiful photo…looks like a painting!
What a lovely site and great photos! Thank you. One of my friends in college was from Manitoba. She was wholesome and wonderful, a gifted pianist and genuinely kind person. She had invited me to Manitoba a few summers, but I found other places to be. Looking at your photos, it is obvious that I missed out. What beauty! Looking at you adopted pets, make me think that this is the route I should take. I’ve been thinking about getting a dog. Maybe it will be an adopted one. Thanks again.
I like the photodave photo too as it captures the sub plot of you and Coco, and the flat expansive landscape, which I imagine is typical. If it is, it must be a “cultural” shock when you travel through or over the Rockies.
I love autumn. It’s still not here, but soon. Our leaves change about mid October. And we usually take a drive to Lancaster, PA on the back roads. Lancaster is Amish Country, and it’s so refreshing to see the beautiful farms, and the horse and buggies. I’m ready, now all we have to do is get Don out of the big crush at work.

Your picture is beautiful – thanks to you and Dave for sharing.
Coll I too have left the flowers in the garden longer then usual. The Cosmo look so wonderful. They are blooming their hearts out. But today being warm and -2 expected tonight I’m going to pull them. Ah but Mother Nature is good to us. Love your fall photos. H
Seems like Fall fell overnight. Every blog I go to seems to be showing the signs of it. Wore my wool sweater for the journey.
From the looks of fluffed-up Bear, it appears to be a bit nippy in the garden. Still, he seems to be unconcerned. I’ve been outside and away from the blogosphere for awhile myself. As it gets colder, I’ll stay inside and blog, but it’s still good autumn weather for now.
I love that shot of you and Coco! And that quote, so true.
