Perhaps I should be knocking on wood.. but dare I say.. I think our weather has taken a bit of a turn for the better.
The change was immediately apparent first thing yesterday morning as I opened the back door to let out the dogs. I instinctively cringed and held my house coat close as I swung open the door and waited for the expected blast of cold air to hit my face. But.. It didn’t happen. I stood there, kind of clueless for a moment, and then realized.. hey.. it’s nice out there. I immediately knew what me and the dogs would be doing that afternoon. Kilcona dog park.. here we come.
And that is exactly what we did. Right after lunch we piled into the car and headed straight for the park. Now, keep in mind that we have been almost house bound for the past couple of months.. going out for only short jaunts and necessities. But not this day.. and the dogs knew it.
Once at the park, Coco and Sadie literally flew out of the backseat in their excitement to get out and run. I can’t say my enthusiasm was any less. :-)

I know I refer to this place as the dog park.. and that is what it is.. only it really is so much more. There are water ponds and creeks, bridges and hills. The trails are endless and the walking can go on for about 7 km., I believe. With the ponds and water ways completely frozen the trails now cross the ponds and many are smack dab in the the center of the creeks.. paths that are only available this time of year for obvious reasons. That is where we hiked this day.. and it was glorious.

I walked, the dogs ran.. elated to be out and free. So glad to be with their doggy buds once more. Everyone was happy.. both dogs and people. Smiles and hellos everywhere.
Not yet accepting that it was no longer -30C, I dressed as I normally would for one of our walks, in many layers and with almost all body parts covered. By the end of our walk gloves were off, my ears wear bare and my jacket zipper was half way open. Glorious.. just glorious.
For the first time in many months, when I took the dogs back to the car it was not because I was near frozen. In fact I was kind of contemplating going for one more round.. but today time would be the deciding factor.. not the cold.
This morning it looks like we are to be blessed by yet another lovely day. Don’t get me wrong… it is still winter.. but now it is winter in a good way.. with the hope of Spring causing all kinds of happy thoughts to bounce about my head.

hi, I came to you by link from Aurthur Dent…love your pictures! What a great place to take people and dogs! Your dog, although I realize he is not a cocker spaniel , makes me think of my “Betty”..she was a cocker, looked exactly like your spaniel. She died about 3 years ago, and I still miss her!
What a treat for you and the pooches! You might as well enjoy while you can, but you’re right about better being on the way.
Shorts weather!!! :)
A nice day or two in the winter does so much to lift the spirits. It sounds like you all had a nice walk/run.
I hope the pleasant weather holds up for you.

Wonderful pictures! I’m so glad you and the dogs had such a good time at the dog park. Hang in there…Spring is coming!
Oh, that beautiful blue sky and all that snowy space!
thanks for your really nice comments!
Hooray for Colleen, Coco, and Sadie. I’m so glad you had a good outing.
Our temp is going to hit 40 today, and then the cold will return. But it is the first hint that spring may be around the corner.
Hi Colleen It Finally looks like Spring is around the corner. Sunday Neil and I went to the Boat Show at the Convention Centre. Then we drove around the Forks. I guess every Winnipeger had the same idea. So many cars and people. But blue skies, sunshine and warm temps. Could it get any better! Ah Spring is in the air!
I couldn’t imagine living in such weather, but that’s probably because I have been spoiled all my life by living in Southern California.
This past weekend it rained quite a bit, and I loved every minute of it. The dogs on their pillow, daddy in his easy chair watching the exploits of Cap’n Jack Sparrow… it was heaven.
I love when it’s still snow-covered yet bright and sunny and not too frigid! I wish my cats would be that eager to get out..they are getting far too chubby!
Okay, first: warming up means turning on the air conditioning, which we did yesterday. I mean let’s face it–snow on the ground means it is COLD out there. But I’ve become a wimp since we’ve been heading for warm climes in the winter.
But I do remember going outside on those sunny winter days when you could actually unzip your jacket a bit and begin to feel that spring really IS going to come eventually. Great pictures.
I love your photos from the park but I can’t get over how much snow you still have. Goodness. And I barely got a dusting. I am sure our big blizzard will wait until I have my easter eggs done for my annual hunt and party….then it will decide to snow. We’ve been known for some March end blow outs.
That looks so idyllic. I know what you mean. We have lowered the bar now. A winter where we don’t get our breath taken away by the cold and immediately cramp up on contact with outside. What used to be crankily cold is now mild enough to wear coats unzipped and muscles loose.
